You'r welcome, I am glad about Monobis bot because GerardMs is not so active anymore and Volkovs bot surely needs help. Luckily he could sort out how to distinguish between upper and lower case, so this will help the Wiktionaries a lot.

language templates in uisce

Many of them do not have a 2 letter code. For the three letter ones see here

No, that probably requires a mothertongue speaker and even they need to get creative. We had a lot of fun with that on nl(d). I added all the water translations because it is a good point to start that process. I'm not sure I understand ..many language names are not shown.. I think at least the English ones are all shown. If you want to see the Dutch names see nl:water

What I mean with "many language names are not shown" is that the template for showing the language name simply does not exist, see for example: "Teimpléad:tio" in uisce, besides because Teimpléad:aistr links to the corresponding Wiktionary the three letters, where Wiktionary use 2, make that unfortunatly impossible. ;( --éan _{(:> )=|} 02:09, 4 Feabhra 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the problem is that wikimedia is not switching to ISO639-3. That means that we are creating a hotch-potch of two letter and three letter codes, because there just are not enough two-letter codes around for all languages. The aistr template does not tkae that into account. On nl we dont put the reference to the wiki sites in the same part of the template. I have been changing 3-letter codes back to 2-letter ones by hand, for those I knew and I'll try and revert more back, but as I said: there are not enough 2-letter codes for all languages.

I filtered out all languages that have both a 2- and a 3-code and I have reduced all of those back to 2-. All languages with 3-codes at uisce should now be ones that simply dont have a 2-code. Of course many of them do not have a wiktionary either.

I think the best thing we can do for now is to use two-letter codes for all languages that have them and only use three-letter codes for the ones that don’t. (started writing that some hours ago before Jcwf did just that) That just avoids having to do extra work on language templates.

It’s a pity that this isn’t all handled at some higher level rather than individual Wikis having to sort it out. I’ve been toying with the idea of just having one generic language heading instead of one for every language and was impressed with how easy it was to get the native language name with {{#language:}} (no doubt only for 2-letter codes), but of course, there’s no mechanism to get the names in a particular language. ☸ Moilleadóir 08:17, 4 Feabhra 2008 (UTC)☏

{{vicipéid}} Template

I really don’t like the way this template handles other languages. I’m guessing someone copied it from en:wikt at some stage, but haven’t had a chance to see what they do over there.

Anyway it just looks wrong. All languages end up with the logo for the Vicipéid and a sentence which implies a link there (i.e. to the Irish Wikipedia).

I think we need two templates - one for the Vicipéid and one for other languages. The other should have a generic logo and text along the lines of Tá alt ar PAGENAME ag an Vicipéid (LANGUAGE). This is a little ugly, but the only other alternative would be to make separate templates for each language (or many versions of genitive language name templates allowing for lentition and eclipsis!).

Actually, now that I think of it, since we have to do the crappy work of creating language name templates anyway, maybe parameters for genitives, etc. might not be such a far-fetched idea. Hmmm... ☸ Moilleadóir 03:51, 10 Feabhra 2008 (UTC)☏

Hi Moilleadóir, I don't like these templates either, yes I have seen they are used on en.wikt and others. On de.wikt and is.wikt we use just a normal text, for Wikipedia-links You have to add the language Yourself. We use the Wikipedia templates in noun entries even if there is no article there yet, because there most probably will be one in the future (and because it is a wiki anyone who goes there and likes to have one there can simply add it).

But we don't add the template at the top of the page but underneath the heading "references and additional information" a textversion, no boxes or logos but Wikipedia is written bold.

Please of course just change it to the way You like it better, or if You create an alternative template which I should use for linking, please let me know.

Another thing:

Have You checked Úsáideoir:Spacebirdy/newarticletext, the drop down menu there could be added to the edition window of non existing entries, and if a link is clicked the entry gets reloaded with the selected template in it.

I have made some templates for preloading for Irish and some languages (You could add more or remove some if You like). I would recommend to make also templates for preloading verbs, adjectives and adverbs, I tried to make them look like the ones I came across here (You can always correct anything on my userpage if You whish to).
