Hi Alison, nice work:looks good. One little thing: the header is centered but the rest is on the left. On a wide screen that looks a little our of whack Jcwf 22:52, 29 Meán Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ugh! Okay - I'll take a look at it on a number of computers and fix up the formatting. It was kinda late when I did it and it was all a bit of a hack, really. Thanks for the feedback! - Alison 01:26, 30 Meán Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

gv.wikty

I've updated the "nospam" list to cover most cases, and blocked my current "base" list of spambot ips. Drini 19:11, 1 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Great! Thanks, Drini :) - Alison 20:05, 1 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Translation templates

Could you use {{trans}} (really {{aistr}}) instead of {{trad}}? It’s better to keep the formatting (:*) out of the actual entries so that it’s more consistent and easy to change. Note I haven't put an indent in the template since the bullet already has an indent (neither bullet or bullet-with-indent lines up with numbered-indent for me anyway) and since I’ve been using the {{(}} and {{)}} templates to surround translations they already seem marked out enough.

Those box templates are very messy to use though.

Which sort of brings me back to the issue of formatting and controlling it. I still think we should move it on a step. I think the Wiktionnaire and Wikizionario looks heaps better than tired old Wiktionary which is quite ugly at times. Even if we don’t do something revolutionary, a step in the general direction of beautiful would be nice. ☸ Moilleadóir 08:31, 2 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yep, I'll use {{aistr}} from here on in. And yes, I'm in total agreement with moving things on. As you said before, we basically have tabula rasa here and can do whatever we like. A quick dig through the French wikti shows a lot more markup and images being used to illustrate entries and I think that really works well! Beautiful is definitely the way to go - let's hear from Jaap on what he thinks before we move forward, though. I can code tricky templates and css if needs be; that's easy stuff :)
One other thing. If you see templates or stuff as Béarla, can you just put Catagóir: Leathanaigh a aistriú go Gaeilge in the "noinclude" section so we can gather them up for later processing? It'll be handy to keep track of them. Oh, and when adding Catagóir: Teimpléid to things, maybe add a parameter so the sort will put them into the right order.
Talk to you later! - Alison 11:48, 2 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think the changes are looking good, but I think there are too many icons of books! I’ve changed {{-aistr-}} to use the icon the Italians use and I had a go at making one for {{-sanas-}}. If I’m taking just few letters out of a manuscript image, do you think that’s fair use or should I get copyright permission? I wanted to be clever and take some text from Sanas Cormaic but I couldn’t find images of it.
Had a go at doing one for 'parts of speech' but it’s looking fairly lame so far. Difficult idea to iconize.
I think the title popup text is mostly redundant, except for {{-sanas-}} where it adds something.
B’fhearr Leathanaigh le haistriú go Gaeilge a thabhairt ar an gcatagóir sin. Ba mhaith liom le n-aistriú a rá ach is canúint Chois Fharraige é sin.
A small change - could we make link underlining happen only on mouseover like they do on other wikis? It makes the text easier to read and if we linkify headings (like the French & Italians) it won’t look so weird.
Another thing I’ve noticed in poking around other wiktionaries is that the Turks seem to have a separate section for translations in the Turkic languages. Probably not an issue for pages without many translations, but maybe we could do something similar with Celtic languages?
What do you think of the hideaway translation sections BTW?

Hi hi!

Go raibh maith agat do fáilte ó chroí! Bíos fearr as mall ná riamh, hehe. Ní tír gan teanga, ar ndóigh! Cén post atá agat do mise? Gaillimh 21:40, 2 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

:) Is maith leat iad? - Alison 01:43, 3 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
I like it a lot. I'll try and use the Gaelic templates: good practice that...
So what is je bent geweldig in Gaelic?

Tá tú go haoibhinn!! :) Agus tú féin freisin (and you!) - Alison 02:08, 3 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Floating pics

Could we lose clear: both on heading levels below 2? Floating pics aren’t working properly. Have a look at gainéad and tiuf-teaf. ☸ Moilleadóir 08:02, 9 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Y Déanta - I rolled out great boatloads of css changes during the week. I think it's okay now. Just bought a bunch of foclóira páipéir here over the last week or so. Going to try stepping up my edit count :) - Alison 08:42, 16 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why oh why can't I just have global sysops?

Then I could block User:Stupid Fucking Paddies myself.

Seriously, that'd be all kinds of awesome. EVula // plé // 04:32, 16 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ugh! Blocked :p And yeah, it's called stewardship. Go for it! :-D - Alison 08:42, 16 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
Bypassing all that happy fun stuff below... I think I need to be consistent in my current admin spots before making a bid for stewardship (currently 2, hopefully a third fairly soon). As it is, I already don't blame people for thinking I'm a power hungry maniac; no need to give them all the more evidence. ;) EVula // plé // 07:00, 22 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
See my comment below, as I never normally do that. Sometimes it just has to be said! :) But yeah, if you went for that, It'd be a Good Thing. I'd support ya ;) - Alison 07:05, 22 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
Golly gee, you're gonna make me blush. :P Maybe next year... hell, in a year's time I could very well have an account on every project and language anyway. EVula // plé // 07:13, 22 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
