Plans (nefarious & otherwise)

  • finish categorising templates...in (haphazard) progress
  • simple noun declension template
I’m already wondering if these templates couldn’t be combined for our purposes, but it’s probably easier to adapt them one-by-one to start with. For instance, en:wikt need to keep the genders separate because they generate tables with appropriate article forms and ‘mutations’. That’s probably also the reason for the separate no plural templates. Hmmm...
  • etymology template (is there a simple enough case for it?) Probably not. Started writing a standard format.
  • add words from Dennis King’s websites (since they already have etymologies!!). Just got his OK for this. (21/9/07)
    in progress: abhus...bith 08:06, 6 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)
  • reference templates: Liosta
  • edit existing language name templates to add native names & redirects for ISO 639-3 codes. One use for native names - title property tooltips on language headings. See {{-ar-}}.
    in progress: {{ady}}...{{ky}} 16:08, 7 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)
  • remove __NOEDITSECTION__ from language headings - surely editing only your language is a good thing?
Phew - you're busy :) I notice not only is our template space growing, but our mainspace count is creeping up, too. Yayy! - Alison 07:32, 1 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thief! ;) Want to have a go translating {{talkarchive}}? Just in case you're doing nothing! - Alison 07:43, 1 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oops! And you mightn't want the toolbar ar barr gach leathanach sa chartlann - Alison
{{cartlannplé}} Y Déanta
I’m obviously being too anal with the way I arranged the archive as well...I’ll have to conform I suppose.
I’ve been adding some entries so that the new templates don’t feel unloved. :) ☸ Moilleadóir 08:05, 1 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
(ec) Thanks for the translation:) I've no idea about the escaped URLs, but it's annoying! I deleted the broken one just there. I'm going to hopefully start added some mainspace entries tomorrow. Working in wikispace or mediawiki is getting to me :) - Alison 08:07, 1 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
moilleadóir - I never knew that. How inappropriate, though :) - Alison 20:09, 1 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Listen carefully ...

... to madra :) I've just started adding pronounciations to the main Irish words. What do you think? - Alison 17:47, 2 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good on you for making a start! ☸ Moilleadóir 13:40, 3 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Teimpléid

A chara, féach ar {{-pron-}} - as Vicífhoclóir Fraincís. Icon + tooltips téacs. Cad a cheapann tu? - Alison 23:02, 2 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok - I did a bunch more & they're easily undo-able, if people don't like them. Take a look at moilleadóir for a good example - Alison 23:21, 2 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

boscaí I think it is

O great and nefarious one. I have stolen your div idea and played around with it at nl. I stuffed a div statement in the main language template. Have a look at nl:juni Jcwf

I think the boxes work in separating the languages, but I was a little worried that we might end up with box overload. The French have done it by giving the language heading a coloured background which works, but I think the boxes are better.
I’m also a little concerned that using div’s at all could cause us problems about where they are closed. I suppose we can get away without closing them sometimes, but I’m sure the W3C wouldn’t approve.
The big thing I’d like is to get classes in there, so that we have a div around each language with a language (or teanga) class, a class sanas div around each etymology, etc. Then we’d have the styling abstracted from the content and would be able to control it better and even allow people to customize the way they view entries.   ☸ Moilleadóir 04:01, 5 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
I totally agree (yet again). I'd taken note of what the French wikti had done with their headers and tried reproducing it here, but it doesn't add to the legibility of the page. The icons do, as they compartmentalise & the eye/brain rapidly breaks the page down into icon-delineated sections. Same with the boxes. Like you, I think they work better and produce a cleaner look. If the divs don't tally properly, we're going to find out awfully fast as the presentation overlaps, etc. - Alison 06:53, 5 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
Mind you, we'll have to work the 'aistriúcháin' box into the scheme, too. Thoughts? Will we go ahead with this? - Alison 06:54, 5 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think we should go ahead with it, but there’s an immediate problem - unless you manually insert a __TOC__ it will get surrounded by the first language’s border. Putting a </div> at the beginning of each heading template (as Jaap did) will probably get around the closing </div>’s problem, but we may not know how wrong it can go until we try it.  :)
I’ve made versions of the en:wikt trans-top, etc. templates today: {{aistr-barr}}, {{aistr-lár}} and {{aistr-bun}} (+ redirects from the English names). Somewhere in the CSS (class="NavHead"?) the English labels hide and show need to be changed to ceil and taispeáin. ☸ Moilleadóir 07:08, 6 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
Y Déanta - fixed MediaWiki:Common.js for ceil / taispeáin. I really, really like what you've been doing here, esp. beo. I'm not sure, though if the TOC is actually doing anything for us here, other than cluttering the page (the sections themselves are small enough). I switched it off on Úsáideoir:Moilleadóir/Gaineamh/bearna just for fun - what do you think of no TOC? Cleaner? More unwieldy? The Tagalog template is putting the icon in the wrong spot. I'll fix that now ... - Alison 15:24, 6 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think we need to do something with the titles, to integrate them better into the boscaí. I'll sandbox a page and have a play around ... - Alison 16:07, 6 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Quick note

... looks like my changes to common.css have changed things radically. This isn't a good thing! I'm going to fix things back .... - Alison 18:32, 8 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Got your note. Sorry about all the messing around - some of the French MediaWiki imports were a little too radical. It should be a lot better now. I'm not overly convinced about the H2 boxing/colouring either and think we could either remove or recolour it. What do you think? - Alison 13:02, 9 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC) (off to bed again 6am here :) )Reply
Oh and the different namespace page colourings (like this one)? Ok/not ok? - Alison 13:03, 9 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
I like the namespace colours...always good to know where you are. I don’t much like the purple (?) h2 shading but I didn’t mind the underline (bottom border) on the h3 headings. If someone had suggested it I would have said it was too many lines, but having seen it I quite like it.
Once again the site is very slow today...at least in Firefox. I can't help feeling that someone did something very wrong in the latest rush of updates to it. ☸ Moilleadóir 08:40, 10 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've rolled back a bunch of stuff lately. How's it look now? Also just about everything was running slow over the last week or two & I think we got caught in all that. I've also taken off that dreadful H2 colouring - Alison 08:44, 16 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Míle maith agat ...

... for dealing with that loitméaracht earlier today. That's Jonny the Vandal. He posts from Italy and gets his jollies from stalking women on Wikipedia. Bit sad, really. Thanks for the reverts ;) - Alison 08:48, 16 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agus arís, a chara. Cheapas go bhfuil an fhirinne agat faoin duine seo; níl a lán rud síos ansin ;) Beidh riomhphost fada agatsa i gceann tamaill - tá scéal fada a rá dhuit. Míle maith arís - Alison 04:33, 22 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to the German Wiktionary!

Hello Moilleadóir,
I just wanted to say hello and to thank you for your improvements in the article Eanáir in the German Wiktionary. Maybe you would like to help me a little bit with the flexion and the meanings of Irish given names. I'm crazy about given names of all languages and so I'm really interested to add e.g. the flexion, short forms and so on to our entries.
If you would like to add something to our articles (I would be very happy about that of course :-)) ), you may have a look at the category with Irish names (you have to type Kategorie:Vorname (Irisch) into the Suche-box). If you want to talk to me (my nickname is Elleff Groom) you type Benutzer Diskussion:Elleff Groom and then you can start a new topic.
I hope to hear from you. --84.144.195.95 17:07, 21 Deireadh Fómhair 2007 (UTC) (aka Elleff Groom)Reply
